He is the Tough Guy of the Crimson Star's crew.  Nikolov Illya Kuryakin.

Sgt Nikolov Illya Kruyakin, 40, of the Crimson Star

The tough `old man’ of the ship, with a thick Russian accent, is a former soldier, a veteran of many military campaigns.  He was dishonourably discharged on trumped-up charges.  Shortly after that, his young daughter died.  It left him bitter for many years.

Nikolov regained some peace after he took in Kayla, a young stowaway, as his own daughter.

Nikolov represents the muscles in the team and specializes in heavy weapons.
