Deviation Actions
Hey there all... The Bowen Boyz are just a lot of fun to do. These hilarious duo is the brain child of my brother. They are just such fun characters that are not only fun to write about but also fun to visualise in ARTFORM!
We decided to let you all know a bit more about them...
Background:
Phil and Dan Bowen were born in Forge City. A city built around mining for ferrous metals. The citizens were honest, hardworking folks.
Heavy Industries were established some years later where raw material was processed and manufacturing took place within city limits. As a result, air quality and the environment quickly began to suffer. Many citizens struggled with health issues caused by the heavy smog that hung in the air. People started referring to the city as Smogville.
Their father worked in the mines and their mother at the factory. Phil had to, pretty much, take care of Dan from the time he was 2 years old.
In time, the father developed respiratory disease like many miners did, and died not long after when the boys were still in their early teens. Shortly thereafter, their mother’s health began to go down. The two brothers decided to venture out into the wastelands to provide for the family. She stopped working the long hours at the factory. The mother always reminded Phil to look after his younger brother, Dan.
At first they ventured the wastelands round Forge City, made small incomes. With experience, they ventured further out. But after their mother’s passing, the bright lights of Robot City seemed to be calling them.
Phil Bowen:
Phil is eight years older than Dan. He mostly makes all the decisions for them both and Dan sort of follows, though he does express his opinion from time to time.
With a mop of dirty blonde hair, Phil is good at tinkering and fixing machines. His outdoor survival skill has come in handy in the wastelands. And he always handles the negotiations when buying and selling stuff, though he isn’t the best at it.
Dan Bowen:
Younger brother Dan is the scrawny one. His pale skin tone and dishevelled raven hair makes him look a sickly kid. Though he towers over big brother Phil, he pretty much does what his brother tells him to do. The scar on Phil’s face reminds him of the sacrifices his brother made to take care of him.
While Phil can be impulsive, Dan is cautious. There were times when his cautiousness was the better judgement. Phil would appreciate it after the fact, though he would not openly say so. Dan could also make a decent meal out of what little food they had sometimes.
The Accident:
It was while scavenging the wastelands of Forge City that the Bowen brothers came across a small crashed transport ship. They found some mining equipment and chemicals in containers. They quickly loaded up what they could in their small truck.
Dan was driving that day. And as the vehicle was going over a sand dune, the front tire hit a rock, causing the small, overloaded truck, to tilt over and roll down the slope.
Phil was thrown out while Dan was trapped in the cabin. He managed to pull Dan out as the fire was spreading. Phil, while still bleeding from the cuts on his face, dragged his brother away. The fire soon reached the chemical containers. The resulting chemical explosion seared Phil’s eyes; instantly reducing his vision to no more than a feet. Everything else beyond was just a blur.
Since then, Phil has been fitted with a special pair of very thick glasses. It looks like someone has stuck a pair of binoculars in his head but it more than compensates Phil’s visual impairment. The lenses enhance his vision in dim light which is a useful feature out in the wastelands of the Gliese desert where sunlight is weak.
